A Great Experience - cut short

I was fortunate enough to be in both the workshop and off-Bwy production and always regretted that it never got a chance to run longer than it did, since we played to almost full houses and could have continued to do so. Ah well. Walter Kerr ran a Sunday feature review on us and two other shows also playing on/off Broadway at the time. Our biggest sin, according to him, was that we tried to be a musical that was also a tragi-comedy, and that fact violated some long-standing "rule." I often wondered if he had ever seen Chekov, Behan, or, god-forbid, Shakespeare. Once again, ah well.
